The mylohyoid (also mylohyoid muscle, latin: musculus mylohyoideus) is a paired muscle belonging to the suprahyoid muscles of the neck that extends from the mandible to the hyoid bone.
The mylohyoid originates from the mylohyoid line of the mandible and inserts on the body of the hyoid bone.
Contractions of the mylohyoid muscle draw the hyoid forward and upward. The mylohyoid also participates in forming the oral diaphragm.
The mylohyoid is innervated by the mylohyoid nerve, a branch of mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve (CN V3).
