Palpebral part of orbicularis oculi

  • The palpebral part of the orbicularis oculi (latin: pars palpebralis musculi orbicularis oculi) is a part of the orbicularis oculi muscle that lies within the upper and lower eyelids.

The palpebral part of the orbicularis oculi originates from the medial palpebral ligament and inserts into the lateral palpebral ligament.

Upon activation the palpebral part of the orbicularis oculi closes the eyelid.

The palpebral part of the orbicularis oculi is innervated by the temporal branch and the zygomatic branch of the facial nerve (CN VII).
