• The popliteus (also popliteus muscle, popliteal muscle, latin: musculus popliteus) is a deep muscle of the posterior group of the lower leg.

    The popliteus originates from the lateral condyle of the femur and inserts onto the posterior surface of the tibia proximal to the soleal line.

    The main functions of the popliteus are flexion and internal rotation of the knee.
