Rectus femoris

  • The rectus femoris (also rectus femoris muscle, latin: musculus rectus femoris) is one of the muscles forming the  quadriceps femoris, located in the anterior region of the thigh between the vastus lateralis and vastus medialis.

The rectus femoris originates from the anterior inferior iliac spine and inserts along with the other muscles of the quadriceps femoris onto the tibial tuberosity.

The main function of the rectus femoris is flexion of the hip and extension of the knee.
