Zygomaticus minor

  • The zygomaticus minor (also zygomaticus minor muscle, minor zygomatic muscle, latin: musculus zygomaticus minor) is a facial muscle lying medially to the zygomaticus major.

The zygomaticus minor originates from the zygomatic bone and inserts into the skin of the lateral part of the upper lip, and extends to the nasolabial sulcus.

Upon contraction the zygomaticus minor pulls the upper lip backward, upward and outward, and deepens the nasolabial sulcus.

The zygomaticus minor is innervated by the buccal branch of the facial nerve (CN VII).
